Description |
The Rhine River at Coblenz, Germany. Photograph taken from an upper floor of the hotel that served as the 6th Cavalry Regiment's headquarters. The twin spans of the bridge over the river have been knocked down and rest in the river. The area between the hotel and the river is pocked with shell craters. A note written on the reverse side reads: "Heres a picture of the painting I sent you. Notice the near misses the German shells made in the field bottom of picture when they tried to knock our hotel out. Coblenz Mar 23, 1945." |
