Description |
Dalton Post Office. Caption reads: "Government Building, Dalton, Ga." View is from intersection of Hamilton Street and Crawford Street showing the front entrance and right side of building. The brick construction Post Office is constructed to mimic the design of Independence Hall in Philadelphia. A columned cupola adorns the center of the roof and a chimney is to the left of the cupola. An American flag is flying from a pole in front of the building. Two "globe" lights flank the steps to the main entrance. Arched windows flank the front door which is also surmounted by an arched window. No other buildings are present in this image. They have been remove from the image and replaced by trees making the Post Office appear as a stand-alone building. 1 cent stamp and postmark dated August 5, 1915 are on the reverse side. Message addressed to Miss Julia Anderson, Marietta, Georgia reads: 'Dear Cousin Julia, I am in Cartersville now & having such a good time. So wish you would come back and see us when we get back home. Sue and I both want to see you again. Charlotte Pruden" |
