Description |
Dalton Post Office. Description on reverse reads: "Post Office, Dalton, Ga." View is from intersection of Hamilton and Crawford streets showing the front entrance from Hamilton Street and a partial view of the Crawford Street side. The brick construction Post Office is constructed to mimic the design of Independence Hall in Philadelphia. A columned cupola adorns the center of the roof and a chimney is to the left of the cupola. A 1950s era automobile is parked in front of the building and parking meters are on the street. A newspaper vending machine is next to the steps leading to the entrance. Promotional advertising sandwich boards are set up on the lawn to the right. Two "globe" lights flank the steps to the main entrance. An American flag flies from a pole to the left of the entrance. A red and blue mailbox is on the corner. The Bank of Dalton building is to the left of the Post Office. The Wink Theater building is visible behind the Post Office. A tall streetlight is on the corner next to a trash can. Granite marker next to the flagpole is Dalton's memorial to area's World War I dead. |
